Plot summary

Silly and Predictable (11,805 –04 Jul 2025) Julian Grimm returns to his religious hometown with his pregnant wife Anna and his 15-year-old daughter Emerson expecting divine assistance to Anna, who lost all her babies. Pastor Carl and the community welcome them. Emerson befriends her classmate Delilah and they spend their free time together. When Delilah’s friend Rebecca is found dead in the forest, Emerson says to Delilah that she saw a monster in the forest. "Spirit in the Blood" (2024) is a dramatic thriller with a silly coming-of-age story by Carly May Borgstrom. The lonely Emerson reads many comic books and fantasizes a ritual to become fearless with her best friends and some school mates. The genre of this movie is not horror or supernatural, but a thriller with the drama of two teenage girls. The conclusion is predictable with a logical explanation of what happened to the girls. The religiosity is only a diversion to the viewers. My vote is four. Title (Brazil): Not Available

Spirit in the Blood is one of those films that seems to begin with the premise of a teen thriller but quickly reveals itself to be directionless. The plot begins with a teenager with a difficult relationship with her father, a newcomer who is out of place at school and ends up getting close to another girl, who has her own personal problems. The two girls join three others and devise a very amateurish ritual, with a perpetual tone of childish nonsense, to try to uncover the existence of a supposed monster in the jungle, responsible for mysterious attacks and deaths.The problem is that, viewed from the outside, the narrative immediately shows signs of disorganization: poorly developed characters, superficial motivation, dialogue that adds little substance, and a structure that seems improvised. There is no coherence in the plot, and it seems as if each scene was created without a solid narrative plan. Add to this the lack of creativity and talent of the writers and director, a complacent cast, the absurd intellectual incapacity of the population, and the incompetence of the local police in dealing with the events, and we have the perfect storm.The climax and denouement are somewhat emotional, but instead of tying up loose ends or creating any impact, they reinforce the impression that the story was constructed on the fly. The result is a confusing, illogical, and, above all, boring film-a waste of time even for those who enjoy the experimental trash genre.If there were a ritual to summon a better script, the characters should have tried it first.

Blood related

No pun intended - the movie is really slow, but my reference(s) are not about that ... of course the title plays a role, but also the relationship(s) between the characters. Be it family or friend wise - yes there is more to this movie than meets the eye.Now having said that, I will say that I view the ending in a light that may not have been intended. I am quite certain that it means what I think it means (with the character being called out by our main protagonist ... which would be circling back to a moment where the family is being stopped by a cop - routine check? Well trust your eyes when you see something - even if it's not there - you'll understand).Acting is good, but I have seen movies with a similar theme ("hidden" message that is kind of clear if you see and hear the signs) ... I still think that this coming of age story deserves and has its own right of existence ... as does the girl ... who has to cope and defend herself ... in more ways than one!
