Plot summary

September, 1941. In a turn of events, young lovebirds Kostya and Nastya find themselves on board a barge that will evacuate people from the sieged Leningrad. At night the barge gets into the storm. When it starts sinking, enemy planes — but not rescuers — were the first to arrive at the scene.

I think the movie is really bad.where has

i think the movie is really bad.where has the russian realism gone. this is a remake of titamic, a really bad one with that.even the actress comes close to the actual actress in titANIC. The worst is that everyone is nice ,even the nkvd officer.totally soapy, this is a putin propaganda film.why not more people were evacuated from leningrad and therefore condemned to starve to death before the nazis closed off everything is not explained.obviusly a lavish propduction but of no interest for a half way interested and informed viewer.

The director tried to follow how the titanic

The director tried to follow how the titanic movie was made, with Rose telling the story. Acting was sub-par at best. I like watching historical fact based war movies, this one i just couldn't get into. Just as you think the movie might get interesting....it was over. then you could read what happened to the end. i would have cut out some of the meaningless sets and added a way better ending. lack of money may have been a factor for that. Russians speak in English and the Germans speak German(you read what they are saying), unless you know German of course.

I have a B.A. in Russian Area Studies

I have a B.A. in Russian Area Studies and studied in Leningrad in 1981. I just viewed "Saving Leningrad" on Amazon Prime. It wouldn't be a good film in its native Russian, but is rendered worse and "de-russified" via English dubbing by poor vocal actors. The film is all over the place, difficult to comprehend, and features a drawn-out land battle with no real connection to the film. It includes, for some reason, an improbable NKVD (KGB) agent on an incomprehensible mission. The 900-day Siege of Leningrad was tragic and easily lends itself to a dramatic telling. You wonder, however, find that here.
