Plot summary

Subpar entry in the franchise largely due to

Subpar entry in the franchise largely due to a miscast Lon Chaney Jr. as Dracula, who doesn't have the sophistication for the role. The rest of the film is meandering at best with the only notable thing in this being the first appearance of the name 'Alucard'. Worth watching as part of a franchise binge but not on its own.

Plot have holes (like some necks). Still, Blobbo find old dracula film pleasant, relaxing. Acting not bad in this one, either. (Only saw 2nd half, though.)

It's not bad. On it's own it might

It's not bad. On it's own it might be good even. But following the footsteps of the previous Universal Horror Movies it makes things very predictable. We already know it's Dracula. While not the exact same plot it's very simliar in a sense to the first ones story. Although it's only 80 minutes the fact this really doesn't have any suprises hurts it. The pacing isn't bad and overall everything is half decent here, including the direction. Sometimes the sets are really moody and remind me of the Wolfman but other times it's basic to look at and just people talking. They try building up suspense of who it really is but again because we've been through this before, that makes it feel pointless. Another key thing is Dracula himself. Lon Cheney Jr. is....ok at best as the Count. He really doesn't add much but isn't a trainwreck either. Dracula himself doesn't get much if any character development at all here. He's the same from the other movies and feels like he should be the focus. But ironically it's focused more on Frank and the "mystery" of who Count Alcard is...It makes perfect sense and moves fluently but it's the same old. And there isn't any new character development to speak of. frank and the love interest aren't bad and the acting is kind of good from both of them. Especially the girl who is probably the most interesting thing here. But there just isn't hardly any character again for them either. It's 90% plot driven. For a sequel that's kind of lame. But it's still entertaining enough. The black and white does help make even boring talking scenes moody though. If your a big fan of the director or any actors in this, maybe check it out. But most aren't missing much by skipping this.
