Six Days in August is a faith centered

Six Days in August is a faith centered drama that leans fully into its old fashioned theatrical tone. From the opening image of the oxen and the quiet invocation of God’s will, the film establishes a reverent atmosphere that feels intentionally vintage. That antique rhythm may divide audiences, but it gives the story a distinct identity. The screenplay accomplishes what it sets out to do, even if it stumbles at times with uneven pacing and a few repetitive beats. Still, its emotional core remains steady. The characters are eccentric, expressive, and often larger than life, yet their conviction keeps the narrative grounded. There is genuine warmth and creativity woven throughout, especially in its lighter exchanges and generational banter. While the dated presentation can be slightly distracting, the sincerity and commitment ultimately make this a charming and heartfelt experience. It feels crafted with intention and devotion, embracing tradition without irony.

The movie was so wonderful! I love the true story about the Mormons. I am a Mormon. My mom’s mother’s family lived back in the 1820s when they joined the Mormon churches. They lived in nauvoo. And some of them were killed at hauns mill. I remembered my mom telling me the story that our ancestors hurried and did the endowments in the nauvoo temple. Then they left nauvoo. They followed Brigham young all the way to Salt Lake City, Utah.

I really, really wanted to like this film

I really, really wanted to like this film. The director and screenwriter couldn’t quite decided on what type of film they wanted to make. It ended up being a non historical film that tried to be too many things to too many people. Better luck next time.
