Plot summary

After her mother's death, mediocre chef Amanda Shelton is having trouble attracting customers to her family's restaurant. While shopping for ingredients, she is given a magical crab by mysterious Gene O'Reilly. Afterward, Amanda's dishes suddenly become excellent, inducing strong emotional reactions in everyone who eats them. Tom Bartlett, who is preparing to open his own eatery, tries her cooking and falls in love.

If you're looking for a terribly serious movie

If you're looking for a terribly serious movie, you won't find it. What you'll find is a modern faerie tale where a talented, hardworking young woman who loses her way after a catastrophic loss of her mother, her family's restaurant, and her place in the world. She finds herself and love with the help of a little magic. It is light and silly, but after Buffy and I Know What You Did Last Summer and before Scooby Doo, it must have been nice for Sarah Michelle Gellar to do something a lot lighter and happier. I enjoyed this movie when I saw it on TV a few decades ago and will watch it again as soon.
