Great music with a legendary performance by the

Great music with a legendary performance by the great Paul Robeson the features a story thread of miscegenation in the Deep South. Unusual for its time. Unfortunately, despite the need for a light-skinned black woman to play the character Julie, the producers chose to go with a white actress out of fear the backlash would bring. Look up the writings of the outstanding scholar, Donald Bogle, to get great commentary on this subject.

Show Boat is an amazing film. It is about the naive young daughter of a show boat captain is thrust into the limelight. Irene Dunne and Allan Jones give incredible performances. The screenplay is well written. James Whale did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the humor and drama.

Certainly, the superior version of this classic musical. However, Irene Dunne in blackface is not an appealing sight.
