A young bioarchaeologist Yukisuke is attracted to a girl Koyomi, who runs a small stand of taiyaki pastry that he often buys. Silent Rain, adapted from The Forest of Wool

Silent Rain, adapted from The Forest of Wool and Steel, is a beautifully crafted film with a slow but meaningful narrative exploring memory, healing, and emotional connection. The film’s artistic cinematography, subtle piano score, and Nakano Taiga’s impressive performance as the physically challenged Yukisuke bring depth to its philosophical themes. While the story unfolds at a quiet pace, scenes like Yukisuke’s daily greetings to Koyomi provide emotional resonance, making this a must-watch for fans of reflective, thought-provoking dramas. Slow burn no skinship Asian kind of romance

This is like the serious version of those cheesy American rom-coms like Fifty First Dates. And I really felt the guy's pain. Having to muster the enthusiasm and motivation each morning must be rough. Who wouldn't break down having to get back to almost square one each single day? However, it felt long and stilted for a very short movie. The first hour or so were very draggy. Sedate even. There's that Japanese restraint and politeness that prevents real connection. I must confess it got interesting for me when he breaks down over broccoli. That's where the movie took off for me and I wish the whole thing were more like that. I had a sneaky suspicion it would turn into full-on melodrama and I thought you know what they could come up with? So he walks up those stairs to relive that moment and then he gets run over by a car.Don't worry, that didn't happen. It got back on track. And I was glad it did. However I'm sorry for this poor guy's future. It had barely been a month of this. I'm sure there's also some symbolism to him being disabled. It also makes us instantly sorry for him.Anyway, do these conditions actually exist? How do these people live really?

Reverse Groundhog Day

"You & I, we both live in the same world.

But each of our worlds are different."

This would be a reverse groundhog day! A woman suffers from dementia-like symptoms after a car accident. She lives each day as a fresh one, with no memories of past day, but retaining memories till one year ago.

It sounds weird in words. As in an affair one could have loved her for over a year, but to her he will appear only an acquaintance. Whereas an ex-partner from 5 years in the past can just easily appear to have more significance to her over him. But as it is with the magic in Japanese films, everything ends up convincing!
