Upcoming Summer is a tender coming-of-age film that explores the quiet chaos of adolescence — the pressure of exams, the confusion of love, and the longing to be understood. Through Chen Chen and Yu Xing, two teenagers seeking solace from family tension and self-doubt, the film paints a portrait of youth that feels raw yet gentle. Their bond, more about understanding than romance, becomes a refuge from the noise of growing up. Sweet but painful

Upcoming summer is a very sweet coming of age film that was marketed as a teen romance film in China and thus let many moviegoers down. This is definitely not a romance (nor could it ever be one) but the story of two young adults trying to be braver and better. And by the end, they manage to do exactly that, even if they have to suffer to get there.

Special congratulations to the two leads, they are both full of youth, full of wonder, a breath of fresh air; for 90 minutes they reminded me of how glorious it is to be that age and have your whole life in front of you. So watch this film but remember: no romance!
