After a chaotic exorcism where a fellow priest is killed, an exorcist returns to his hometown to recover from the tragic event. Unexpectedly, his father returns from the dead, claiming to be possessed by a holy entity. The troubled cleric must confront a biblical dilemma: is this entity a demon in disguise or God himself? "Shadow of God" is a horror movie with an unusual approach to the demonic possession subgenre, as it raises philosophical questions about the borderlines between Good and Evil. The plot also tackles the trauma perpetuated by religious oppression. The movie attempts to explore new territory by subverting the clichés associated with the exorcism theme, but the end result is a messy and incoherent narrative that lacks authenticity. The poor CGI effects also contribute to the overall dull experience.

Shadow of God" an exorcism film that tried

"Shadow of God" an exorcism film that tried to be different with unique ideas & avoided many of the tropes in a subgenre of horror that has grown tiresome. Yet the tone is at odds with itself, the bloody & psychedelic visuals didn't necessarily work & sequences came off as cartoony, largely down to the performances. While it can be seen as passable criticism, the Raiders of the Lost Ark final act didn't help despite the good payoff which was setup during the opening. Mark O'Brien is always a reliable actor & playing the priest, he's like a beat cop who's seen it all before retirement in two weeks.
