Plot summary

Set in the desert-weird wilds of Joshua Tree, California, Serpentine Pink is a distinctively visceral and surreal independent, female-centric film that digs into the various and rigorous ways a heart heals from trauma. Inspired by France's Grand Guignol style of horror theatre, and utilizing a lyrical language both visual and verbal to capture the strange poetry of the Mojave land and soundscape, Serpentine Pink follows a reclusive biker woman and her John Wayne-obsessed exotic dancer lover's disturbing fallout after a violent acid attack. An ethereal psychic and her aspiring healer companion converge with supernatural forces in an attempt to confront and then heal the women's - as well as their own - deep-rooted, personal pain that comes from trying to break the cycle of possessive love.

A beautifully weird experience

Loved watching this film. Definitely a different type of artistic experience, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I haven't watched too many queer films, and though this qualifies as one, it's deep on so many levels in its exploration of the human condition, particularly through the female lens. It challenged my senses and perspective of how women feel and live, all through a painfully beautiful journey of love, hurt, confusion, passion, and healing. I've watched it twice now, and plan on watching it again because of the complexity and beauty of the performances, writing, and overall artistic impression. Can't wait for more!

What the heck was this...?

Well, I had actually never even heard about this 2025 movie titled "Serpentine Pink" prior to stumbling upon it here in 2026. And with it being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I had to check it out.But I virtually had no idea what I was in for here, aside from the little information provided by the synopsis.Writer Megan Breen put together a script and storyline that failed to really entertain me. It was a pretty strange narrative, and I struggled to find anything worthwhile or enjoyable in the narrative. So I wasn't particularly impressed with the material that the writers pieced together here. Needless to say that I couldn't finish the movie, because I was bored senseless.I was not familiar with a single actress or actor on the cast list. Which certainly was something that spoke in favor of the movie, as I do enjoy watching new and unfamiliar talents on the screen.Definitely not a movie that I would recommend you to sit down and watch. And most certainly not a movie that will ever grace my screen a second time.My rating of director Vivian Sorenson's 2025 movie "Serpentine Pink" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
