A Grand-Scale Precursor to Suicide Squad with Impressively Tight Action

250526 (1.8) Released in 1987, this film feels like a surprisingly large-scale predecessor to the "Suicide Squad" concept, especially considering the era it was produced in. The narrative structure and the ensemble dynamic immediately bring to mind the gritty, mission-oriented team-ups we see in modern superhero cinema. What stood out the most was the sheer quality of the action; the choreography and pacing were incredibly tight and dense, providing a satisfying visual experience from start to finish. Despite being an older title, the ambitious scale and the way it handles its action sequences make it hold up remarkably well. It's a movie that prioritizes "the taste of watching" through its well-executed stunts and combat scenes, proving that high-stakes team missions were just as compelling decades ago. While the plot might feel familiar to fans of the genre, the execution of the action keeps you engaged throughout.

A surprise, in more ways than one

NO TOMORROW is an interesting Korean cross between drama and thriller. I had no expectations for it and when it started playing out I was surprised to find it was a 'found footage' film, the first I've seen from Korea as I recall. For the first hour it plays out as a straight social drama exploring the plight of modern-day slaves working on a salt farm on an impoverished Korean island, but towards the end there's a really surprising twist that sees it veer into serial killer thriller territory. Both aspects are decent and the usual high drama and strong acting make it a fresh and enjoyable watch.
