Searchers is a painfully dull documentary about people using dating apps, and it fails right from the opening shot—a man staring silently at the screen in awkward silence. The interviews are bland, the subjects are uninteresting, and whoever selected and compiled them did a terrible job. The director delivers a messy, pointless film that offers no insight, no story, and nothing remotely educational or entertaining. It feels like people rambling about their app experiences with no direction or purpose. This is easily one of the worst documentaries I’ve seen, boring and poorly executed from start to finish. I wouldn’t rewatch it, revisit it, or recommend it to anyone.

Searchers is a documentary that immediately gave the impression it might offer an intriguing look into the world of dating apps and the people who use them. Instead, it opens with a man staring silently at the screen, offering no insight, no commentary, and no emotional hook. The moment is painfully awkward, and unfortunately it sets the tone for everything that comes after. What begins as curiosity quickly morphs into confusion as the film struggles to establish a purpose. The interviews chosen for the documentary only add to the problem. None of the subjects are particularly engaging, and many of them come across as bland or uninterested in what they're discussing. Rather than offering a meaningful exploration of dating culture, connection, or modern relationships, the film simply presents people talking without direction, urgency, or any form of narrative momentum. It feels less like a documentary and more like a string of unused audition clips. The director's approach does the film no favors either. The structure is scattershot, the pacing is flat, and there's no evident thematic intention driving the project forward. Instead of shaping these interviews into something thoughtful or insightful, the editing leaves everything feeling aimless. The film never builds toward anything-no thesis, no revelation, not even a compelling emotional moment. It's astonishing how little the documentary does with a topic that could have been rich with human complexity. As a result, the entire experience becomes increasingly frustrating. What should have been a commentary on dating culture or online connection ends up saying absolutely nothing. The documentary neither educates nor entertains, nor does it challenge the viewer in any meaningful way. Every segment feels repetitive, uninspired, and disconnected from any larger message. At times, it's hard not to wonder why the film was made at all.The lack of narrative shape or emotional weight makes Searchers one of the more baffling documentary experiences in recent memory. Without structure, purpose, or compelling perspectives, the film collapses under the weight of its own emptiness. Even moments that could have offered levity or reflection fall completely flat. It's a rare feat for a documentary to be this devoid of direction, especially given how culturally relevant its subject matter could have been.Ultimately, Searchers is a complete misfire. It's dull, awkward, and astonishingly ineffective at every turn. There is nothing here worth revisiting or recommending, and even out of curiosity, it's difficult to justify watching it once. For a documentary meant to explore human connection, it delivers none of it, resulting in an experience that is not only disappointing but entirely forgettable.
