Plot summary

A Mexican outlaw known as "The Stranger" is part of a band of thieves that steal a cargo of gold from a stagecoach. However, the Americans in the band betray him, and shoot all the Mexicans. The Stranger is not completely dead though, and crawls his way out of his shallow grave, continuing his pursuit of the gold, and exacting a bloody vengeance.

Plunged into an odyssey of gruesome torture, graphic violence and relentless sexual depravity, Django Kill is possibly the most cynical portrait of frontier greed and human corruption in the entire Spaghetti Western subgenre. An extraordinarily savage and psychedelic blend of splatter horror and the western, it doesn't adhere closely to convention, turning a nightmare scenario and moral confrontations into a hellish allegory on greed, guilt, sadism, and justice that doesn't quite recognise its own peculiarities. While all is presented very seriously, savagely and brutally at times, it breaks down in its own playing field with its choice of factors. The entire narrative unfolds with little cohesion and an almost hallucinogenic quality, while the photography, editing, lighting, and Giulio Questi's direction all work beautifully together to create a feeling of something very off-kilter. A no-holds-barred free-for-all where the only limits are in the budget. Tomas Milian's performance is relatively subdued, putting him at direct odds with Roberto Camardiel's more larger-than-life idiosyncrasies; it's two very different styles that complement each other very well. The events are all underlined by a rather enjoyable, if repetitive, score by Ivan Vandor. With its crucifixions, drunken parrots, vampire bats, gratuitous bloodletting and slightly gothic, quasi-religious, homoerotic villains, it's little wonder Django Kill has amassed a bit of a cult following, a wild and wacky ride through a 60s nightmare. Its very weirdness keeps you hanging on as the trip takes increasingly bizarre turns.
