Plot summary

Lee Gong-jin, a young tailor, helps the Queen with her dress and both fall in love with each other. However, his success catches the ire of Jo Dol-seok, the royal tailor, who vows retribution.

South Korean (with subtitles), The Royal Tailor is

South Korean (with subtitles), The Royal Tailor is a beautifully filmed period piece about the conflict between the king's tailor and an upstart more talented young designer. For two thirds of the film, it's a lighthearted often silly comedy with likeable characters, but then comes an ending way more tragic than you might have expected or wanted. So while I highly recommend it, I also have that serious reservation.

Beautifully filmed. The battle of beauty and politics in ancient Korea. Complex characters, plots, and themes. Loved the fashions.
