Nota 5/10.

Saludos Amigos is one of those fascinating little

Saludos Amigos is one of those fascinating little gems from Walt Disney’s early experimental era — a blend of culture, music, animation, and live action that feels both educational and celebratory. The film was born out of a unique period in Disney history, part of the studio’s “Good Neighbor” projects during the 1940s, designed to strengthen cultural ties between the United States and Latin America. What came from that mission was something surprisingly entertaining: a colorful, travel-inspired adventure that showcased the beauty, rhythm, and spirit of South American culture through the eyes of Disney animation. From the moment it begins, Saludos Amigos feels like a geography lesson come to life, but in the most charming way possible. You’re taken on a whirlwind tour of landscapes and traditions — from the Andes Mountains to the bustling streets of Rio — all through the lens of Walt Disney’s creative team, who blend documentary-style footage with their trademark animation. Donald Duck, Goofy, and new character José Carioca each bring humor and energy to their segments, keeping things lighthearted while still celebrating the local culture. The animation is particularly impressive given the time period. The hand-drawn artistry, combined with live-action footage, creates a visual experience that’s innovative and full of character. There’s a genuine sense of curiosity and respect for the places and people being portrayed — something that makes the film stand out as more than just a cartoon. It’s an early example of Disney’s ability to educate while entertaining, turning something as simple as a travelogue into a vivid cultural exchange. However, as charming as it is, Saludos Amigos hasn’t exactly aged gracefully in terms of audience appeal. What felt engaging and fresh in the 1940s now comes across as slow and academic, especially for younger generations who live in the fast-paced world of streaming and social media. The pacing, the structure, and even the humor are products of their time — and modern audiences, particularly children, might find it more like an old educational film than an adventure. That being said, for anyone who loves animation history or wants to see a different side of Disney’s creative evolution, Saludos Amigos is a must-watch. It’s a short, breezy, and beautifully made film that captures the optimism and artistry of the studio’s early years. It might not hold the attention of today’s kids, but for those who appreciate Disney’s legacy and cultural storytelling, it’s a delightful reminder of how far-reaching Walt’s imagination really was.
