Plot summary

Chanticleer is a foolhardy farm rooster who believes his crows can actually make the sun come up and shine. When the sun rises one morning without Chanticleer's crow, he leaves the farm in disgrace and runs off to become a rock 'n' roll singer. But in his absence, a sinister, sunshine-hating owl prepares to take over.

Rock-A-Doodle is an animated film I had never fully watched before, so finally sitting down to see it was an interesting experience. The animation is decent for its time, and the concept of a young boy entering a cartoon world is cute and imaginative. Chanticleer is a fun, energetic character, and Tattoo the dog adds charm and humor. The characters overall are likable and easy to enjoy. However, the movie feels very dated. Unlike many animated classics that feel timeless, this one feels old and dry in places. The story never fully pulls you in, and many moments fail to connect emotionally. While the ideas are solid, the execution feels flat and underdeveloped. It’s enjoyable in small doses and works best for very young kids, but it doesn’t leave a lasting impression. Overall, it’s a harmless, cute watch, but not a memorable one.

Okay. Is it a fever dream? Yes. But

Okay. Is it a fever dream? Yes. But it's OUR collective fever dream! This movie was ingrained into my head as a child. I legitimately thought I dreamed it until I found it available for streaming. I think it's the childhood fever dream nostalgia of seeing this on TV in the 90s or on a VHS tape recording but that's what makes it a 4 instead of a 3. It just has so much charm to it and it's perfect to watch when you're sick! Lean into the fever dream and Let's Rock ??
