Plot summary

Warren Odom, a rich Southern gentleman, is left in a state of shock when his wife, Helen, leaves him unexpectedly. With Helen gone, Warren's kindhearted teenage daughter, Lucille, cares for him and tries to cheer him up. Warren slowly starts to recover, and begins a relationship with another woman, Vera Delmage. However, his life is complicated when his older daughter, Rae, arrives in town pregnant.

Shot this movie 20 years ago in Mt Pleasant SC..Great cast (Albert Finney has the most authentic Charleston accent I have ever heard from an actor), director (he did "Driving Miss Daisy")...Cool to see locales that have come and gone (they pull in front of Jimmy's Fireworks on the site where a massive town center is, the old Cooper RIver bridges are in sight and they show a Piggly Wiggly that is now my gym).

Adapté d'un roman de Josephine Humphreys, Rich in Love suit une famille de Caroline du Sud pendant un été dont la mère s'est enfuie de la maison. Alors qu'on pourrait s'attendre à une énième chronique familiale avec les écueils inhérents au genre, Rich in Love est plutôt calme à ce niveau-là. En effet, le film de Bruce Beresford fait partie de cette étrange caste des films absolument passionnants dans lesquels il ne se passe absolument rien ou presque. On suit plutôt l'été compliqué de Kathryn Erbe et d'Albert Finney, formidables, qui essaient de reconstruire une vie familiale après le départ de Jill Clayburgh. Les seconds rôles (Kyle MacLachlan et Ethan Hawke) sont au diapason, ce qui fait de Rich in Love une très bonne surprise et un film aussi reposant qu'émouvant.
