This movie is NOT the Howard the Duck-level

This movie is NOT the Howard the Duck-level disaster its negative reviews and devastating box office performance would suggest. Maybe George Lucas wanting to have this story told since the '70s raised expectations too high? I'll admit Radioland Murders isn't a perfect film. It isn't as consistently hilarious as it could be, it doesn't always know how to utilise its ensemble cast and the screwball shenanigans start a bit too early, barely giving us a chance to care about these characters. And yet, I still had fun watching the film, which gained more steam later on when our main character catches on regarding the killer's M.O. and becomes a better detective than the Chicago cop. The film also has great art direction, good jokes and even some fun stuntwork although the climax had something that reeked of a Deus Ex Machina to me. Overall, a film that's flawed in places but still think is an underrated film that'll make you yearn for the days when Lucasfilm did things other than Star Wars.

Okay, so it isn’t without its faults. But

Okay, so it isn’t without its faults. But, it is a watchable madcap whodunit mystery with over the top physical comedy and slapstick violence. Not to mention that you get the late Anita Morris and Mary Stuart Masterson as eye candy. Even if Brian Benben’s Roger is annoying and melodramatic this is still a somewhat decent film.

Only a critic would criticize a screwball comedy for being a screwball comedy. It is what it is intended to be. Fast paced and funny. Lots of sight gags and quick witted dialogue. A great ensemble cast and great sets and effects. You’ll miss a lot the first time you see it if you’re not playing attention.
