This 1971 low key French crime-drama film suffers

This 1971 low key French crime-drama film suffers from a wobbly script, wobbly editing and wobbly acting. Charles Bronson is not playing his normal action type role, but a man with amnesia struggling to understand who he is which Anthony Perkins character takes advantage of. With that said this is not working to my mind. A structure that is set like a theatre play within the same environment more or less, creates not much that excites you in any way. Except the lovely Jill Ireland. I can understand that on the last day of filming Charles Bronson´s frustration at the director, who he believed had stuck doggedly to a poor plan of how to film the story, boiled over, and grabbed Nicolas Gessner by the throat, and gave him a shake. I would like to shake Gessner as well.

Fascinating mainly for pairing Charles Bronson and Anthony

Fascinating mainly for pairing Charles Bronson and Anthony Perkins in a bizarre love triangle with Jill Ireland, contrived doesn't even begin to describe the tale fleshed out in Nicolas Gessner's 1971 attempt at a psychological thriller. Kind of a less entertaining version of the Deathtrap-variety plot twist model, Someone Behind the Door primarily succeeds in revealing just how odd Perkins and Bronson can come across on screen. Great cinematography and set design aside, the pair's awkwardly wooden performances almost sink the entire story, and the action is delivered so clumsily that most viewers won't even care why which characters are alive or dead in the end.
