Plot summary

Pioneer is set in the early '80s, at the beginning of the Norwegian Oil Boom. Enormous oil and gas deposits are discovered in the North Sea and the authorities aim to bring the oil ashore through a pipeline from depths of 500 meters. A professional diver, Petter, obsessed with reaching the bottom of the Norwegian Sea has the discipline, strength and courage to take on the world's most dangerous mission. But a sudden, tragic accident changes everything. Petter is sent on a perilous journey where he loses sight of who's pulling the strings. Gradually he realizes that he is in way over his head and that his life is at stake.

Pionér / Pioneer (2013) Conspiracy or Paranoia? (11,696 –16 May 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) In the 70’s, in Norway, it is found petroleum in the bottom of the deep sea of the North Sea. They have the necessary technology for exploration but the gas necessary to the divers. The company Deep Sea Diving makes a joint venture with an American company to install a pipeline in Norwegian waters. When the Norwegian divers Petter "Pete" (Aksel Hennie) and his brother Knut Jensen (André Eriksen) and the American diver Mike (Wes Bentley) go to the bottom of the sea 500 m below the sea level, there is a problem with the gas and Knut dies. Pete suspects of the team that was supervising the operation, but soon he discovers that the authorities of his country are also involved. But the problem is, who can be trusted? “Pionér”, a.k.a. “Pioneer” (2013), is an European thriller and action film that takes place in the 80’s, in Norway. The theme is interesting, with good names in the cast. However, the screenplay is confusing and hard to be followed. The cinematography is too dark in the scenes in the sea, and sometimes it is difficult to be understood, My vote is six. I tolerated one half, but progressively the story

I tolerated one half, but progressively the story became more and more improbable. At least on Tubi, they translate the dialogue but not the written elements. I assume they expect all of us to be able to read Norwegian. The opening scenes are well done with good photography. The death of the diver would benefit if they had a medical consultant. We don’t administer adrenaline intracardiac often today, but when you do you continue chest compressions and then you have to defibrillate the patient. The shot doesn’t work by itself.

Pioneer: An excellent drama/mystery/thriller with rich attention to detail, camera movement and commentary- all excelled by excellent preformances from its talaneted cast especially Stephen Lang and Askel Hennie.
