Plot summary

Two families, Sebkovi and Krausovi, are celebrating Christmas, but not everyone is in a good mood. The teenage kids think that their fathers are totally stupid, and the fathers are sure that their children are nothing more than rebels, hating anything they say.

A rumbustious glimpse into the interaction between a clutch of Czech households immediately before the Prague Spring of 1968 does a clever job of showing the personal is impacted upon by the political but is also full of the absurd humour that is so characcteristic of the country's artistic output. There are some cringey (but brilliant) moments where a man goes off one one about the difference between dumplings and gnocchi as well as a bizarre attempt to match the height of a kodiak bear. The Christmas decorations take a beating.
