Dystopian future where time is a commodity to be traded. A well woven plot and great suspense to the end.

This movie started with promising premise and I really like sci-fi like this. It reminds me of In Time (2011) starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried, which of course in that movie the transfer of time is much simpler. In this movie, it is a little bit more complicated than that, which involved medical procedures.
I will let you watch that yourselves.
What is greatly disappointing and even to the extent of upsetting, is how the ending turned out to be.
The main character, Max, started the whole thing by kidnapping the lady whom he though is his boss, Sophie, but turned out to be Sophie's daughter, Marie. His intention is to take back the life from Sophie and transfer it back to his wife, Elena.
The disappointing part is, he chickened out. He cannot go through with his plan, even though Marie tried to shoot Elena in her face! Enraged by Marie's action, Elena went through with the plan to take her youth instead. In the process, because of her disagreement with Max, they both went their separate ways. At this point, I don't understand why Max would do that. I mean, what changed?!?!
I get it, they want to show what is morally right, which is what Max intends to do in the end to go public with it, and what is righteous, which is what Elena wants to do because it was revealed that the fire and debt was planned by Sophie all along. Elena wants justice and revenge. Max, chickened out. I felt that there should be other approach because you know what, shortly before the movie ends, they revealed that Max had joined Adam, the activist/rebel group that is against what Aeon is doing.
Just as I think the story could not get any worse, the writer decided to add another hypocrisy to it: Max let his wife live, which is against what Adam stands for.
The writer needs to get their mind straight, for real.
This movie started off promising but the ending just ruined everything.

I see there are a lot of mixed reviews for this German sci-fi, from people that didn't get it to people that found it clever. Count me in the people that enjoyed this movie, and so did my wife. I thought the plot was interesting, certainly food for thought. The only thing that could have been a bit better was the acting from certain actors but overall it was all pretty decent. I didn't think the plot was complicated at all so I don't get what others didn't understand about the story. The lesson of the movie is don't do to others what you don't want others do to you. If everybody would think about that a bit more, life on earth would be so much better.
