Plot summary

A fever dream vision into the dark history behind the US housing economy. Tracking its overtly racist beginnings to its unbridled commoditization, the doc exposes a foundational story few Americans understand as their own.

A documentary (not really) the desperately wants to

A documentary (not really) the desperately wants to convince its audience that the are social justice reasons for the existence of slums. The bubble had nothing to do with social justice, just greedy rich people supported by greedy politicians. Ghettos and slums have nothing to do with greedy (white) people, just greedy and pandering liberal (predominantly black) politicians. Baltimore, Chicago, LA....you want to take back your streets? Get your politicians you keep voting for decade after decade out of office...or at least make them think you will.....WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE?

There was some interesting content about the American

There was some interesting content about the American housing market and some of the racial and economic aspects of it, but I wasn't quite sure what they were driving at with this one.

Disappointed with this especially after the great work

Disappointed with this especially after the great work of Giorgio Angelini on "Feels Good Man", which was an amazing, deft presentation of narrative of an immense amount of detail. Here, the octopus, many faceted of the topic seems to overwhelm Angelini. His attempt to connect the beginning/end of the film, which is a personal life/worldview comparison, with the middle "facts/history" portion is embarrassingly amateurish. His has said in interviews his goal was to have the film connect emotionally. Who was the intended audience here? What pandering would reach anyone not living in a cave. Comparing a retired cop from Levittown gathering with friends for a meatball lunch with that of lame diversity session that attempts to surprise the audience with the unveiling of a convicted felon to be an educated, "articulate, black person" is the inch deep, inch wide stuff of a sheltered novice. Too, bad. The middle portion's presentation of the subject's history is the most successful and shows Angelini's promise as a filmmaker, though it's still overly ambitious in attempting to portray the intended scope of its topic in less than 90 minutes. Only Angelini's ability to keenly edit the many interviews into the narrative that keeps it from feeling slapdash and scattered. Hopefully it affords him more opportunities, which include episodic ones, he aim is true but the moon is further than it seems.
