Plot summary

Jim "Lucky" Moore, an insurance salesman, comes up with a novel policy for his friend, Steve: a 'love insurance policy', that will pay out $1-million if Steve does not marry his fiancée, Cynthia. The upcoming marriage is jeopardized by Steve's ex-girlfriend, Mickey, and Cynthia's disapproving Aunt Kitty. The policy is underwritten by a nightclub owner, Roscoe, who sends two enforcers - Abbott and Costello - to ensure that the wedding occurs as planned.

The film is the film debut of comedians

The film is the film debut of comedians Abbott and Costello, and although they are magnificent in the movie, they're not the main focus. The main foxus is one a guy name Steve who needs help getting married. Steve's friend James helps him and they run into Abbott and Costello a few time. Abbott and Costello steal the movie with their rountines and gags.

The only thing special about this Universal musicomedy is the first screen appearance of Bud Abbott & Lou Costello (third-billed) who recreate their famous "Who's On First" routine.

This is Abbott & Costello's first film, but they were not the leads but instead featured performers. This allowed them to insert several of their bits into the film, including the classic "Who's On First." I'm always enchanted by the performance of Robert Cummings, an actor who's equally adept at comedy or drama (as in Alfred Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder). This film also stars Allan Jones—the father of Jack Jones, whom you may remember sang the theme to "The Love Boat"—, and Nancy Kelly, and features William Frawley, Mary Boland, Leo Carillo, and Peggy Moran. An excellent way to spend Saturday morning.
