Chaplin plays a wealthy man who comes home

Chaplin plays a wealthy man who comes home at one a.m. after a night of drinking, and finds everything in his way an obstacle to getting to bed. In this famous slapstick short, Chaplin performs a hilarious one man show which not only shows his comedic ability but also his incredible creativity in his interaction with every prop and inch of the set. Magnificent in its simplicity.

This one gets redundant and annoying as we Chaplin playing with only himself as a drunkard for way too long, attempting to get into his house and eventually into bed with his stupor being the only obstacle. I do have to recall yet another fond memory, as with Vagabond, as this is the first Chaplin film I've seen with my girlfriend, and marks the second with Cristian's participation. Chaplin appears to be bourgeois here, a far cry from his usual paltry means. I think it reads better than something like Fireman, but is just a bit too self-indulgent. Chaplin is better having other actors to play off of. I do love the design of this film and the various set pieces we get, from the exterior to the taxidermy laden interior, the bedroom with the anthropomorphic bed, and a stylish bathroom, even by today's standards, with a very unique shower.
