A loving look back at an underrated Disney

A loving look back at an underrated Disney classic, this shows all the reasons why Goofy was deserving of an emotional evolution and contemporary update, and why hand-drawn animation doesn't deserve to die.

Even if you've never seen A Goofy Movie

Even if you've never seen A Goofy Movie in its entirety, Not Just A Goof is still an excellent documentary focusing on a smaller scale project set outside of the Disney Animated Canoj. I like seeing the cast and crew looking back on its production, it's nice to see Jeffrey Katzenberg being talked about in a way that depicts him as reasonable whilst not mincing words regarding bad ideas such as having Steve Martin as Goofy, the mid-'90s archive footage is nostalgic and the small animated segments dramatising BTS woes are well-implemented without coming off as an afterthought to get people who otherwise wouldn't be caught dead watching documentaries to see this one. You can tell this was a passion project for this crew and how grateful they were when the film got vindicated by history after being dismissed for not being an 80-minute-long Goofy cartoon. That's all I have to say about this doc. No contrarian comments from me dismissing this as a cynical ad for a film nearly turning 30.
