Plot summary

Russian poet Andrei Gorchakov journeys through Italy with his interpreter Eugenia to research the life of an 18th-century Russian composer who once lived abroad. Isolated and consumed by an unrelenting longing for his homeland, Andrei becomes drawn to Domenico, a radical mystic obsessed with spiritual redemption. Through austere imagery and extended temporal rhythms, Tarkovsky examines exile, memory, and the profound melancholy of being unable to belong fully to either place or language.

The movie is dedicated to the director’s mother, who I assume died from boredom watching her son’s film.

Saw this for the Director's legacy and like

Saw this for the Director's legacy and like one critic said, nothing much happens here despite the beautiful cinematography. It did show me that old bath and I put it on my places to visit when I go back to Italy. SLC DVD.

Ahora mismo, puedo afirmar con certeza que es una de esas películas que se convierten en una experiencia profundamente personal. Independientemente de sus múltiples temas, además de su premisa principal, esta película evoca fuertes sentimientos en mí y me conmueve profundamente, revolviendo mi mente. Puede ser a la vez inquietante y hermosa. En resumen, es una gran obra que me cautiva cada vez que la reviso.
