Plot summary

Lin Hsiao-yang tries to keep her family together while working as a waitress at Kentucky Fried Chicken and going to night school. With no mother and her father currently working out of town, it is up to Lin Hsiao-yang to take care of her younger siblings, who are slipping into a life of crime.

Hou's first urban film is also one of

Hou's first urban film is also one of his most accessible. Filled with 80's pop songs and neon lights, the film follows the life of one of many of Hou's strong female protagonists and her gangster brother. One thing that intrigued me as in other Hou films like in A City of Sadness was how casually violence appears when you don't expect it. I think it's due to the general causal slice of life approach of his films.

A very slow, offbeat, realistic and beautiful movie

A very slow, offbeat, realistic and beautiful movie. Not for everyone, this is for those who enjoy out of the box dramas. Really loved it. The film deals basically the struggles of a small family. If you get into the characters, this film will give you an unforgettable experience.
