Plot summary

After the sudden death of her father, sixteen-year-old Joey Javitts is sent to stay with her grandparents while her author mother promotes her latest novel. Joey promptly falls for the beguiling goth boy next door, Victor, and is transformed by him and his merry band of misfits in black. A coming-of-age story about the sometimes painful—and often entertaining—search for identity and love in adolescence.

I’m not goth, but I’m open minded and

I’m not goth, but I’m open minded and interested in all cultures and subcultures. I love to to see how different people live, interact, love and what makes humans "tick". So I was super excited to see this movie on a streaming platform. Especially after I learned that this was made by goths and had goth consultants for the movie. I assumed I would get an accurate peek into this subculture. But, even I as a non-goth can see that this was not that. It was not an accurate peek into this lifestyle. It was stereotypical surface level cliche. Also, the acting was sooo flat (especially Viktor.) I knew it was an indie film and low budget. But, cmon! I’ve seen better acting in no budget high school film projects. The female lead actress playing Joey wasn’t terrible. But, a lot of the actors surrounding her made it a very difficult watch.

This is the poorest representation of goth and

This is the poorest representation of goth and punk subcultures I've seen in a film in a while. This is almost on "The Room" level of bad film, from the acting to the story. I don’t know what they were thinking when they made this, but boy is this a treat for all the wrong reasons.

Fun for someone who lives in Portland and

Fun for someone who lives in Portland and likes goth music. The soundtrack and score is really elevated. Don't go in expecting a big budget or high drama and you'll be entertained.
