Plot summary

It’s Christmas and the charming city of York, home to Jules, 16, and her dad, David, is decked out ready for the festive season. In many ways, David and Jules’ relationship is no different from that of most fathers and their sixteen-year-old daughters. He struggles to understand her, she refuses to communicate with him. He wants to be involved in her life, she wants her own space. In one important respect, however, David and Jules share a profound bond: the death of Jules’ mum, and David’s wife, in a car crash two years before. With both struggling to cope with everyday life in the shadow of their loss, Jules, inspired by happy memories of her mum, decides to take matters into her own hands.

This movie is a touching and sweet look

This movie is a touching and sweet look at a father and daughter dealing with grief together. This is not your standard hallmark Christmas movie - these characters are flawed but I still find them believable and worth rooting for.

I thought is was going to be sappy

I thought is was going to be sappy and sweet. It wasn't. The daughter although grieving was kind of a jerk, it was hard to sympathize and her motives for setting her Dad up weren't well intentioned. Not worth the watch beyond background noise.

Daughter sets grieving widowed father up with women

Daughter sets grieving widowed father up with women on dating apps and has them encounter each other in public, where the woman thinks they are meeting up for a date, and the dad thinks these are weird random women approaching him. This would be fine enough, but then a sobbing woman approaches him calling out his name and seeking his solace, turns out a pitpull had just ripped her chihuahuas throat out in front of her and he bled out in her arms. Dad has no idea who she is, and daughter and friend witness this with what seemed like shocked amusement, and the whole scene seemed to be played off for a laugh. No empathy for this woman who has just been deeply traumatized and now is also being treated like a crazy random woman by the man she thinks she's been communicating with online and is supposed to be meeting for a date. This was so disturbing and unfunny that it ruined the movie
