Plot summary

Neglected by her husband during the pre-Christmas rush, Mrs. Claus takes the reindeer and sleigh out for a drive, only to end up stranded in the neighborhood of Manhattan's Lower East Side.

Mrs. Claus takes the reindeers for a stroll and finds herself in turn of the 20th century New York helping some kids working like slaves in a factory. An awkward musical full of Christmas spirit clichés, but the casting of Lansbury as Mrs. Santa Claus is spoty on.

Angela Lansbury elevates Mrs. Santa Claus from being

Angela Lansbury elevates Mrs. Santa Claus from being merely a good holiday family film to the level of being a very good one. While not a true holiday classic, it is more entertaining than a lot of other good holiday films that appear on television around Christmas time, due in large part to Lansbury and a strong cast of accomplished actors such as Charles Durning and Terrence Mann. There are musical numbers scattered throughout, and while not particularly memorable, they are just right in context of the film and are mostly enjoyable. I've seen it twice now, and it has become a holiday staple for me. If anyone other than Lansbury had played the lead I'm pretty sure this would be just an okay film. As it is, it is worth seeking out if you appreciate solid family entertainment or if you are a fan of Lansbury.

I am obsessed with this movie! It is the perfect Christmas movie for a musical lover. Angela Lansbury is a dream. The songs are catchy and the story is just beautiful! A must-see for all the musical lovers out there. :)
