Mope (2021) is a 102-minute-long American dark comedy I watched on Prime in June. It is too easy to say you need "balls" to watch this film. That it gets in your face quite quickly… Crude jokes aside, this is not an easy watch for more than the obvious reason. My main difficulty is one of the main characters is utterly unlikeable and undeserving of sympathy. His co-lead is the same up to a point. At best you could look at them as idealistic, idiotic nerds with a niche hobby… And that’s being generous. The truth is worse and this film is not a tragedy. I think they are acted well. The make-up artist did great with Driver and his sweatiness. The interiors were beyond authentic. The camera work is interesting without being ground-breaking. Too many scenes are intense, and scenes feel like islands with impolite edits thwarting comprehension. The final sex scene and final scene are bad in terms of what is happening. Rewatch? Nope. Recommend? Nope. 5/10.
