Spoiler alert for the racists looking for a target: this situation happens in The Middle East, as in ALL the big countries that have oil money and no morals or restraint do exactly that. It's routine for working women to have their passport held by their employer simply as a condition of being considered for the role. It's a straight up barbarism mindset that is prevalent in far too many places and has been for far too long.
