AKA "Two Tons of Turquoise to Taos Tonight

AKA "Two Tons of Turquoise to Taos Tonight." A series of nonsense sketches, including home movie footage, edited together at random. There are occasional interesting ideas (people playing a game of baseball on horseback) but mostly this is just Robert Downey Sr. jumping off the cliff of self-indulgence, without his usual parachute of comedy.

Lilly ate kumquats. I’m in the beginning stages

Lilly ate kumquats. I’m in the beginning stages. Where is fate? When you get done with that, meet me over at the cemetery. Hal is the first child. Firing frogs fast fits for friends. But how is the rainbow coordinated? Dandruff is the bane of my existence. I think I’ll be orange on Thursday. Oh, I’m sorry, was that incoherent and pointless? Now you know what it’s like to watch Two Tons of Turquoise to Taos Tonight, or as it is also titled Moment to Moment. This is another chaotic film by Robert Downey, Sr. that challenges the viewer to make sense of anything. It’s random and keeps bouncing around from one short vignette to the next. I think they attempt comedy a couple of times, but I can’t be sure because nothing is even remotely funny. It’s as if a completely wasted film student tried creating a Monty Python style film. When done right, by people who are actually good film-makers and writers it can be hilarious to jump from one sketch to the next, but this isn’t done with any intelligence or skill. It’s haphazard and irritating. I cannot fathom how anyone could find entertainment value out of this nonsense. It’s easily one of the worst things I’ve ever watched, and the only saving grace is that it is relatively short. This project I’ve taken on to watch every film Robert Downey, Jr. has appeared in may kill me at this rate, or at least make me wish I was dead.

The brilliant Robert Downey boils down to it's

The brilliant Robert Downey boils down to it's essence his abstract expressionist meets dada meets Marx Brothers aesthetic. Freeing himself of narrative structure allows Downey to paint with pure emotion. A moving tribute to his wife and accomplice Two Tons unfolds as a surrealist home movie. Weaving footage of his children and friends in an wildly unstructured film that nonetheless is edited flawlessly. Capturing the true mood of the sometimes dark and paranoid mid 1970's. If you want to be spoon fed the same series of images and tropes you have seen a million times go watch Avengers for the 17th time. If you want to uncork your bottled up id give this a stream of consciousness.
