One day while making a delivery, she stumbles upon an underground world of immigrant women in Grand Central station. This world is called the "Golden Palace". She finds a new friend in Lily - her alter ego. She also meets an American man named, Jack and falls for him. As Ah Na grapples onto the hope of a brighter future, the ghosts of her past soon catch up with her. Will Ah Na achieve her sense of place in the real world or will she be forever lost in the uncertainty of the past?

Miss Wonton is a timeless achievement in capturing the very real challenges of the American dream. The personal battle of being torn between fantastical space and realism, and between two contrasting cultures remained evident through the film with the brilliant play of colours and symbolism, deeply embedded into each scene. The reality is that almost 20 years on, the story of Miss Wonton and the immigrant's story remains as culturally significant as ever— and this film wonderfully does justice to that.

Simple story of a Chinese girl's attempt to find the American Dream. Some subtle twists and turns. Worth a watch.

Accurate portrayal of the struggle, I enjoyed it!

I believe this film offers a unique and thought-provoking perspective on Asian immigration in New York by blending magical realism with an exploration of the fetishization of Asian women.

Its innovative storytelling approach not only enriches the narrative but also provides a fresh lens through which to examine complex cultural issues.

By using irony to address these themes, the film challenges viewers to reflect on the intersection of culture, identity, and perception in a way that is both original and impactful.

By that context, I do think it accurately portrays the struggle and the very real sadness that many Asian American immigrants faced in the pursuit of the American dream.
