This film is on the good side of

This film is on the good side of average for sure. Superb performances from the leads, though pretty amateur effort from the rest. My primary wish is that this film had picked a tone. They cut between three distinct worlds (daughter's life with townies, daughter's life with inspiring interloper, and daughter's life with her father) primarily through the use of music, which made for a jarring watch. I would have been more than happy to settle into the muffled jukebox, neon bar signs and wood paneling of the local dive bar, but was often interrupted with unwashed teens killing time to rap-adjacent noise. Worked as a narrative device, but not so much for the ears. All-in-all, felt like a fairly authentic (albeit narrow) depiction of rural, conservative America, and the fallout of trauma, substance abuse, and toxic masculinity.

This is a bleak film, which had a couple of surprisingly poignant moments towards the end, in terms of the situations/scenarios and, primarily, the dialogue. I quite liked the cinematography, although it is certainly cliched and perhaps somewhat predictable. The plot is a little plodding and I wouldn't say this is more than a reasonably good film but yes, it's ok, though I wouldn't go out of your way to see it as such, no.
