Plot summary
After a collision with a comet, a nearly 8km wide piece of the asteroid "Orpheus" is heading towards Earth. If it hits, it will cause an incredible catastrophe that will probably extinguish mankind. To stop the meteor, NASA wants to use the illegal nuclear weapon satellite "Hercules," but discovers soon that it doesn't have enough firepower. Their only chance to save the world is to join forces with the USSR, which has also launched such an illegal satellite. But will both governments agree?

They should of used some scientific advice in this movie. It takes from 4 to 20 minutes for a radio signal to get from Earth to Mars (depending of the orbits), but they were talking with Houston as if it was local phone call. In space there's no air so you can't explosions or rocket busters. From all the Apolo missions they should of known that a spaceship is not like a living room with all the crew moving around and looking through big windows. But, I like ti because of all the actors, beginning with Sean Connery.
What do you expect,a 1979 movie to suddenly have 2022 CGI?

@bestmoviesonly Challenger 2 was not at Mars, it was heading to Mars but diverted to Vesta, which is closer. At Vesta Capcom never responded on camera as though the feed was in real time, and they only watched as Challenger was destroyed. In any case it made no sense to interrupt a dramatic scene for a short time lag. Excellent editing if not onscreen detail.
