Plot summary

In this modern day version of Shakespeare's Macbeth, a hitman heeds a spiritualist's prophesies that he will rise to the head of his family. He starts his ascension by clandestinely executing the heads of the family and casting the blame on others. However, with power comes consequences that are also predicted by the seer.

Boring retelling of "Macbeth" in a gangster setting. Out of a typically excellent cast, Dennis Farina was the only one who seemed to give a performance with any life. If you want to watch Shakespeare retold in a new setting, watch Kurosawa's "Throne of Blood" or Ian McKellen's "Richard III". And if you want Shakespeare in a mafia setting, watch "Godfather Part III".

This is a perfect adaptation of Macbeth that really holds up. I saw it when it first came out and twice, as a teacher, showed it to grade 10 general classes who absolutely got into the Shakespeare as a result: It follows the play scene for scene. Stephen Wright's take on the Porter is the first time I've seen that character work; the reimagining of the witches is inspired.
