Plot summary

While dining out with friends, Sy suggests the difficulty of separating comedy from tragedy. To illustrate his point, he tells his guests two parallel stories about Melinda ; both versions have the same basic elements, but one take on her state of affairs leans toward levity, while the other is full of anguish. Each story involves Melinda coping with a recent divorce through substance abuse while beginning a romantic relationship with a close friend's husband.

This movie is deeply terrible. So much promise

This movie is deeply terrible. So much promise; so utterly disappointing. Excellent, capable cast and the premise is very compelling. But the delivery was forced, stilted, and felt more like an undergraduate film instead of the work of seasoned professionals. The dialogue was choppy and unnatural. Monologues were indulgent and so self aware it read as insipid and cheesy. The genuine moments if connection were few and far between. The characters seemed one dimensional, under developed, and ridiculous…and not in the fun way. It was embarrassing to watch great actors floundering on screen with what was clearly an absolutely awful script and even worse direction. Moments of what should be quaint nervousness or awkwardness Woody Allen movies are known for seemed contrived and pantomiming. The whole thing seemed rushed and cringeworthy. In a word: bad. Just…bad.

I didn't think it was possible to make

I didn't think it was possible to make Will Ferrell this unfunny, but this film is first-rate proof that different styles of humor sometimes really don't mix.

Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, o elenco é mais ou menos, e ninguém ajudou a melhorar o filme, a história é fraca, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e mais relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom.
