Plot summary

Single dad Richard meets Christine, a starving artist who moonlights as a cabbie. They awkwardly attempt to start a romance, but Richard’s divorce has left him emotionally damaged. Meanwhile, Richard’s sons—one a teenager, the other 6-years-old—take part in clumsy experiments with the opposite sex.

I know Miranda July likes the wacky and

I know Miranda July likes the wacky and the quirky, but this was too much of the wacky and way too much of the quirky. Throw in some kooky, and some twisted sexualizing of a seven-year old, and you lose me. Seriously, what the hell with this little boy and online sex talk? Couldn't take it any way artistically. I found the lead characters hard to believe as actual ppl, esp. July's character. Unless she's mentally ill. It had potential of being a really warm, sweet flick about an eccentric pair of ppl finding one another, and the dynamics of adolescents stuck between childhood and YA ages. Not sure how Ebert gave this crackpot movie 4 stars. Macaroni? More like crack-a-roni. 2.4 stars

The rendered synopsis is awful. This movie is mostly about how different strains of personalities are creative in their lives, contrasted with a few that aren't. The work is wonderful to behold! Some will object to the portrayal of an under age sex scene; understandable. Overall, though, it is a love story that has little to do with the scene just described, and everything to do with regular folks being artful.

One of the best and original screenplays for

One of the best and original screenplays for a movie I've ever had the pleasure to watch. It came out 20 years ago but so relatable at the time of cell phones just making their widespread debut made it so relatable. There are so many sides to each story and makes the depth of each character stand out and find cues every time you rewatch it. HIGHLY recommend getting to the end without turning off.
