I was late to discovering Matteo (about 3-ish

I was late to discovering Matteo (about 3-ish years ago) and enjoyed his work a lot (even his early stuff). But this special was far from his best work (watched it 3 times just to be sure). I don't know if it's because it's a heavy-handedly edited, highly/overly produced HULU special, but it didn't feel as authentic and energetic as his other specials that he's done solely on his own. The material wasn't new/fresh, the pacing was lagging, the audience seemed amused but slightly bored (the laughter was polite but died pretty quickly and where Matteo would normally have something funny as a filler to keep the laughs rolling, the silence was deafening)--it just seemed FORCED. I haven't had a chance to see him live on tour, but if this was the material from the tour, I'll stick to rewatching his Advice Specials and other Comedy Cellar specials/clips, I Never Liked You Podcast with Nick Smith, and his YouTube channel--those really make me laugh out loud.

Matteo Lane is hilarious, gorgeous, and incredibly talented

Matteo Lane is hilarious, gorgeous, and incredibly talented. Al Dente is a fun ride that showcases his sharp humor and charisma. I’ve been a huge fan for a while and follow him on social media, so a lot of the jokes felt familiar. Because of that, I didn’t LOL’d as much as I did when I first “met” him, but it was still a joy to watch.

Seems like a lovely guy and if I were out having brunch I’m sure I’d find his general demeanour and quirky stories endearing but I watch comedy for the jokes and this just didn’t make me laugh because there really weren’t any jokes, just stories about hanging out with friends, nothing original really, certainly nothing funny.
