Plot summary
Filmed in the coal country of West Virginia, "Matewan" celebrates labor organizing in the context of a 1920s work stoppage. Union organizer, Joe Kenehan, a scab named "Few Clothes" Johnson and a sympathetic mayor and police chief heroically fight the power represented by a coal company and Matewan's vested interests so that justice and workers' rights need not take a back seat to squalid working conditions, exploitation and the bottom line.

This film depicts with clarity how the working class has been violently suppressed by the elite of the country through the strategy of Union-busting to prevent the working class from unifying across divisions of race, religion and gender. The ruling class keeps us divided by making the issues of our time a clash between Left versus Right, Black versus White, Men versus Women, Straight versus Gay etcetera. While in all actuality the real division is the upper class versus the other 99% of the population. Don't fall for the false dichotomy and recognize how the economic division is the core issue of our times.

Let me be clear, even though I state that the economic divide is the core issue of our time, the truth also is that racism, misogyny, homophobia and anti-semitism are real problems in our current society. We should however not let ourselves be divided by those that sow hate and division, even on the YTS site. Those that propagate hateful rhetoric are pawns doing the work for the upper class elites so they can divide and rule.
