Plot summary

Lucky Luciano is one of the bosses of the Mafia. He orders the slaughter of 40 other responsibles, therefore becoming the only boss. But a few years later he is put into jail. In 1946, he got a pardon and is sent back to Sicilia. There, he begins becoming one of the chief of the Mafia. The US Army seems to refrain from interfering.

This film works best when Rosi sticks to

This film works best when Rosi sticks to his well known gritty thriller drama style, as it loses a lot of its energy with its stints in melodramatic territory. The story itself is a little weak, particularly in its final part.

Lucky Luciano is a decent film. It is about the Mafia boss Lucky Luciano, covering his life from 1946 to 1962. Gian Volonte and Vincent Gardenia give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Francesco Rosi did an alright job directing this movie. I liked watching this motion picture because of the drama.
