The aftertaste is profound; both the film's narrative approach and the theoretical and real-world significance brought by the story itself are worth experiencing for everyone.

Sooooo confusing at first, which made us the viewers feel like we were taken along for the ride. Each shot of the landscape was so important - I really felt like I understood what I had to look at each time and could feel the cold in my bones. I honestly (gladly) expected a sob-love story, but was pleasantly surprised to find it an honest magical retelling of love stories and lives of every day people. Still, there was just the right amount of Jdrama moments. Bonus: Watched this during a Japan Foundation supported film festival in KL??. This came out of the Q&A. When the film first came out in 1995, he didn't think it would be that big a hit following the traumatic Great Hanshin earthquake and even the Tokyo Sarin gas attack that happened a week before the release. Incidentally, he was walking around in KL researching for the next film. Having this shown today was like a full circle moment for the director.
