Plot summary

Lina is about to graduate high school and has her sights set on her future at MIT. But when her mom gets sick, she encourages Lina to follow in her footsteps and have “the summer of a lifetime” in Rome. Using her mom’s old diary as a guide, she explores the romantic and magical city, where she just might find love... and gelato, of course.

Three words. Unmemorable. Uninspiring. Unwatchable. There is nothing this movie brings to the table. The location is pretty, but even that is drowned out by the miserable plot and the unchemistry between the cast. There is no love, nor any good gelato. Even the best friend was butchered. What crap.

I downloaded this movie for my flight to Italy, because it was the perfect way to get in the mood and I loved it. The Italy setting and visuals were stunning - Rome and Florence looked gorgeous and made me even more excited for the trip, even though I wasn’t going to those cities this time. The storyline about Lina's mother and her own time in Italy years earlier was my favorite part. It reminded me of Mamma Mia! The love triangle between Alessandro and Lorenzo was cute but pretty predictable. Still, the chemistry was sweet enough that I didn't mind the obviousness of it. Also, Howard (the mom's old friend) looked and sounded so much like Gerard Butler, it was a little distracting in the best way!
