Plot summary

After the closure of their shipyard in Northern Spain, a few former workers: Santa, José, Lino, Amador, Sergei and Reina keep in touch. They meet mainly at a bar owned by their former colleague Rico. Santa is the most superficially confident and unofficial leader of the group. A court case hangs over him relating to a shipyard lamp he smashed during a protest against the closure. José is bitter that his wife, Ana, is employed when he is not.

A good drama with a great soundtrack, about

A good drama with a great soundtrack, about a degrading cycle of semi optimistic dread, suffered by a few laid off workers of a shipyard. Who are forced to confront the same dilemma again and again. Whether the injustice of their lingering state, stems from their own ineptitude and pride or is it the system, that has it in for them. The film never gives answers to these questions and never tries to move away from their perspective. Hens, some might find the movie really senseless, since nothing really happens. To state the obvious, that's the point. They are trapped in economic conditions and stopped being viable employees or simply don't want to compromise, like Santa, played masterfully by Javier Bardem. Doomed to wither away in the sun, not even knowing what day it is.
