Plot summary

Lorenzo Odone, a Virginia 5-year-old, develops a degenerative nerve disease so rare that nobody is working on a cure, so his parents decide to immerse themselves in research and tackle the problem themselves.

The film begins with a scene in Africa

The film begins with a scene in Africa, immediately sparking curiosity about who Lorenzo is and what the "oil" signifies. These questions are naturally answered halfway through the movie. It is deeply impressive that his parents never gave up; instead, they taught themselves medical knowledge and found a solution that even the doctors couldn't. The interests of doctors and patients do not always align. Patients might just be data points in a sample, but every single "sample" is an actual, living human being. The father relentlessly asked questions and formulated theories to answer them. His ability to question serves as a study template for me: always ask why and find the answer. Meanwhile, the mother constantly stayed by her boy's side, reading to him. Along with his aunt and their African friend, they all poured their love into the boy. It truly shows the miracles people can achieve when driven by an ultimate goal, reminding us that we should always believe in ourselves.

فلم حلو. القصة انسانية حقيقية وتراهن على المشاعر أكثر من البناء السينمائي المعقّد. القصة مؤثرة لكنها تُقدَّم بإيقاع بطيء نسبيًا. الأداء التمثيلي قوي خصوصًا من بطلي العمل الذان اعطيا للقصة ثقله العاطفي. الإخراج مباشر وعرض القصة بشكل سلس و واضح . عتمد المخرج على الجانب العاطفي اكثر من البناء الدرامي للقصة و للشخصيات لكن رغم ذالك يبقى فلم جيد جدا. التصوير كان هادىء و متزن و الموسيقى كانت جيدة.
