Plot summary

When Seth receives a mysterious letter inviting him to spend the weekend at a secluded mansion in the country, he soon realizes the people inside the house may know him better than he knows himself.

So, it's a decent enough thriller - it

So, it's a decent enough thriller - it builds suspense well, and it's a little weird, and mildly uncomfortable - but Seth is really the only competent actor here. The Terrifier chick is basically a bucket of wall plaster, and the brother is like if Patrick Bateman was completely, unequivocally, thoroughly uninteresting to the audience. Yes, he's obnoxious. No, that's not enough to make him compelling. I understand making a character repellent, but if the actor makes the character unwatchable, the movie becomes unwatchable. The sexual tension scenes are also terrible because it's like Seth is responding to, well, a bucket of wall plaster, and no, that's not a plot point. It's just really bad performances from everyone but Seth. The script isn't the big loser here as usual; it's the casting. Still, as script goes: the alcoholism storyline was so very underexplored. What as the point of all that? The twist ending was an eh, why change the story now, so...altogether, meh.

The ending was a bit of a let

The ending was a bit of a let down but the rest was really good. Over the first hour and hour and fifteen in someways nothing happened yet it was always able to keep me engaged. There were some shots that could have been better here and there but the rest was really well done. The film was aware of its limitations and for the most part was really engaging. Two of the three main characters were really well done and kept me interested throughout. I'd recommend this to horror fans, or anyone who really likes the "invited to rich crazy persons house" horror genre.
