Loan Shark is an okay film. It is about a tough ex-con who infiltrates a gang of loan sharks. George Raft and Dorothy Hart give decent performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Seymour Friedman did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama.

George Raft was 51 years old during the filming of Loan Shark and he was clearly at least ten years too old for the role. Especially with the beautiful and 33-year old Dorothy Hart playing his love interest. The film itself isn't too bad and probably deserves a watch if you like crime noirs and an interest in Raft's career.

It's like they plucked Raft out of an early 30's movie, gave him the same persona with a lot of the same dialogue and put him in a movie two decades later with him totally out of place in the early 50's . Just horrible, stiff, cliche acting from Raft with ridiculous fight scenes where the double is clearly different and the sound affects not synching up to the action. A love interest 20 years his junior falls for him after he essentially sexually assaulted her and apparently she liked it falling for the ex con on parole with no money and no job almost immediately. The ending more ridiculous with Raft shooting a couple bad guys and the cops that knew nothing of the under cover operation simply complimenting him then he walks off with the girl. Too bad too because there were quality actors in the movie, the plot was good, the tire factory background was interesting it just suffered a "RAFT" of problems. Raft never could act. He had one character that was fine in the early gangster movies but never fit in any decade except the 1930's. The audience rating of 17% is spot on for this one.
