Plot summary

Lianna's life is a succession of domestic errands and boring faculty parties, however her heaviest cross to bear is dealing with her waning marriage to Dick. In order to find intellectual stimulus, Lianna takes a college extension child-psychology course taught by Ruth. When Lianna catches Dick having an affair with a young coed, she finds comfort and eventually true love in the arms of Ruth. However, this comes with a price as everything in her life is turned upside down.

Directed by John Sayles this focuses on a woman Lianna She's the naive young wife of a professor bored with her life and angered at her husband's blatant sexual indiscretions She has an affair with another woman, Ruth (Jane Hallaren), and when her affair becomes common knowledge, she finds herself shunned by both her friends and family Lianna starts to discover who she actually is and deserves the love and comfort one humbles for But will it come at the expense of her children as well as her livelihood? Definitely a lot of silent moments in this so it's supposed to absorb the situation Lianna finds herself in Plus it's tough feeling she's obligated to support herself with Ruth so it's not 100% in sync Stinks that Ruth disappears after the second half of this Plenty of nudity here but the sole focus is this woman learning to come to terms with her sexuality and this was one of the rare 1980s films as far as LGBTQ representation Who knows if we are straight or not, it's not our job to love someone unless we actually feel it, the subject of lesbianism should be explored even if we don't fully understand it This is very well-acted even if it falls below John Sayles' superior works full of love, friendship, and camaraderie
